Coode Street Cafe, Mount Lawley
I first visited Coode Street Cafe in Mount Lawley a few years ago for brunch, and enjoyed it. I recently visited with an Entertainment Book voucher (25% off total bill) and enjoyed it once again. Coode Street Cafe is well-known amongst Mount Lawley residents, and seemingly vice versa, as the wait staff knew almost all the customers in the cafe when we visited. The cafe is located in the quiet streets of expensive houses, and you wouldn’t know it existed if not for all the cars parked outside on the street. My boyfriend and I visited for lunch, and it was relatively busy, and full of locals. We were welcomed with a smile and led to a table next to a mirror. We were given waters straight away and we ordered promptly as we were starving.
My boyfriend ordered the lamb fillet after contemplating the bruschetta. The dish came out on a large plate, decently sized, with mash and beans topped with the spinach and lamb. The mash was soft and perfectly mashed with no lumpy bits, the sauce was well seasoned, going well with the mash, and the lamb was perfectly cooked and tender. There were only a few pieces of lamb fillet, so it would’ve been nice to get a few more, especially the amount we were paying for. I probably wouldn’t recommend it if you were really hungry, as there are other filling items on the menu…
For instance, I ordered the club sandwich, which was triple layered with bacon, chicken, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and egg. One of the best club sandwiches I have ever had. The chicken was tasty, and bacon is always a favourite. The egg and mayonnaise kept the whole sandwich moist. I really enjoyed the club sandwich and I was actually full by the end of it. The bread was toasted perfectly, and on a whole, it was exactly what a club sandwich should be – tasty, fresh, packed full of meat, and perfectly toasted.
Coode Street Cafe serves one of the best breakfasts in Perth, and I would recommend trying their breakfast. They have an extensive list of drinks, including many juices with interesting combinations. As it is a favourite amongst locals, it can be busy on the weekends although there are a lot of seats inside and outside. They also do take-away frozen meals which you can buy at the front counter, and they have many sweet stuffs too, if you need a sugar fix.
